These inspections cover the basic safety features and performance of a vessel, from the required safety equipment to the hull condition and engine condition.
15-Point Check for Vessels
Basic Visual Inspection
Approximately 6-8 hours.
- Horn – functioning correctly
- Nav and anchor lights – working correctly
- Electric windlass and anchor roller – check all functions are operating correctly with all safety extras
- Exhaust hose and water lines – check for wear and cracking
- Hose clamps – Check for aging and rusting
- Coast Guard safety equipment – check needed gear quantities and expiry dates
Check all through hulls – visual condition with no leaking
- Inspect shaft seals and rudder seal – for age and wearing
- Inspect cutlass bearings – age and wearing
- Zinc – check condition
- Bilge pumps – check that all are functioning correctly
- Props and thruster blade check – dings and missing blades
Hull condition – blisters, chunking paint
- Glendinning and shore cable inspection if present
VHF radio testing – check all installed VHF radios for send and receive

Approximately 4-8 hours.
- Dial indicate shafts – if possible, dial the shafts for any noticeable bend
- Test all batteries onboard – Get a battery report for all batteries
- Engines and generator systems visual – fuel, air, water, fluid levels
- Check all through hulls – check that can be operated and smoothly and safely
- Emergency Engine shut off check
